Eye movements and visual performance in children with and without visual impairments

invité par Laurent Goffart

In recent years, my lab has started to investigate visuomotor behavior in pediatric and clinical populations. We aim to develop clinical diagnostic tools and novel treatments such as visual training protocols to alleviate visual impairments. In the first part of my talk, I will focus on saccade behavior and nystagmus of children with infantile nystagmus and I will address the effects of a visuomotor training intervention. In the second part, I will discuss how stereoscopic eye-tracking may be helpful in improving the quality of eye tracking in clinical populations and otherwise challenging subjects (e.g., young children). I will illustrate how we used this technique in children to score visual acuity in a digital version of the Teller Acuity Card test, and how it allowed us to obtain calibrated measurements of eye movements in blind subjects responding to stimulation-evoked phosphenes.
